Hello to All CSI El Paso Members,
Today, the role CSI plays in our design-construct community is significantly different than when CSI began so many years ago. Our mission has extended far beyond that of specification writing, to become much more of a catalyst in creating strong, design-construct communities by building partnerships, each working towards a common goal.
To start with, the CSI Institute and Southwest Region are currently undergoing some changes to make CSI as a whole a more complete and better organization. I will keep everyone inform as new information comes in to the new changes that will take in effect in 2009. Also, the changing technologies like BIM and all things Green are making us think differently of the way we view design and construction. Green specs and BIM has been in everyone's mind, but what does it all mean? The Chapter will be presenting programs in the near future to answer questions such as these.
The CSI El Paso Chapter Board has joined in with other local organizations to support the Eco El Paso '08, organized by the El Paso AIA. Eco El Paso '08 will hold a one day symposium on October 16, 2008, on sustainable building design and construction for a broad range of public and private professionals, building owners, architects, designer, contractors, and building product manufacturers for an environmentally responsible eco building in the Chihuahuan desert region. The CSI El Paso Chapter is sponsoring a presentation on "CSI's GreenFormat and Relevance to Project Specifications" by Paul Bertram, CSI, LEED, AP, CDT. Members are encouraged to attend. We are currently developing the Chapter's website to provide information of interest, news and event announcements to keep everyone up-to-date on the going-ons in the Chapter and Region.
Our first Chapter Membership meeting for the 2008-2009 FY will be a visit to the TECH2O plant on Tuesday, September 30, from 11:30 am to 1:30pm. We will begin with lunch followed with a tour of the facility. This tour will be the first of two, Part One will be a tour of the Main Plant only. Eric Salas, CSI, Programs Chair will be working on Part Two, a tour of the brackish water treatment process.
