One last reminder that the Deadline for
Gulf States Region Awards
is fast approaching.

March 1, 2010
Do not be late NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

Remember we have the Eugene Wetzel " Communicator Award" and our NEWEST AWARD is the Gulf States Region Scholarship. See below for additional information on both of these.

We all know that every Chapter has at least one member that has done a Service to CSI and is deserving of recognition so please submit their accomplishment for an AWARD!

A REMINDER.
NOW
is the time to start planning for Chapter Awards. It is just as important : maybe more so: that we recognize our chapter members that do so much to make our chapter better.

Our Contact information is listed above.
Do not hesitate to contact either one of us with questions.

Awards Deadlines Fast Approaching

Here we all are just before the big “Boo Day” and if you haven’t already started the process of nomination package preparation for your Institute and/or Region Awards, you are already behind. With a January 15, 2010 Deadline for the Institute Awards and the Region Bishop Award, you need to concentrate on them first. The remaining Region Awards are all due March 1, 2010. Keeping these two dates in mind, what should you be working on you may ask. We below are just a few suggestions.

From the Institute Awards:
Institute Outstanding Chapter Commendation Award – for most, this Award is considered “Low Hanging Fruit: in that every chapter should be able to submit a successful package based on your normal operations. The effort is in the processing of the package. Just keep in mind that you have all of the information required, all you need to do is organize it.

The remaining Institute Awards (with the exception of Fellowship) can still be completed in the time frame required. Just remember, closely read the requirements especially those involving Endorsement Letters from others. Without these letters, even the perfect package can’t get past the first elimination.

From the Region Awards
This year is the inaugural run for the Gulf States Region Scholarship Award and every chapter with a Student Chapter should be working diligently to have at least one nomination. We want to make this Scholarship one of the most coveted in the Region and possibly the whole institute. You Awards Chairs and Affiliate Chairs, don’t let Floyd down.

The Eugene Wetzel Award is ready for round two. We need people nominated who are “Great Communicators”. We all know one and should be submitting them in droves.

The Bishop Award is in need of nominations. There are outstanding people out there deserving this highest recognition. Put the packages together and get them in. Keep in mind these packages are due on January 15th, so don’t be caught looking.

Billy and I would like to personally congratulate all the Awards Chairs for their efforts up to this year. Let’s keep the good work going with another banner for Awards in the Gulf States Region. We want to be the most “Awarded” Region in the Institute and we definitely want to make sure that all of our people receive the recognition they are due.

Let’s get out there and get those Awards flowing.

Reminder from the Awards Committee

Attention all Award Committee Chairs and Chapter Presidents. If you didn’t pay attention to the advice from Billy Mathis last month and haven’t already started assembly on your Institute Award Packages, NOW would be a really good time to start. If you can “get it in gear” and hustle you can make the deadlines. What Deadlines you ask? These deadlines:

January 2, 2010 - Distinguished Membership & Honorary Membership

January 15, 2010 - Fellowship and all other Institute Awards

It is the “all other Institute Awards” where most of your work will be done. The key award that must be started is the Outstanding Chapter Commendation. Every Chapter in the Gulf States Region accomplishes what is required to receive this Award each year. The only difference between the Chapters that are awarded this Commendation and those who are not is a submission. In that, I mean you can’t win if you don’t submit.

Some things to keep in mind:

  1. The Institute has published a new submission form for the Outstanding Chapter Commendation. It is contained in the new Institute “Honors and Awards Guide” which spells out the requirements for each award and the submission forms to be used.

  2. There is a new Mailing address for Institute Awards!!!!!
    CSI
110 South Union ST, Suite 100
    Alexandria VA 22314

Next deadline is the Region Awards. More information will be forthcoming next month on our Region Awards. Below are the deadlines for the Region Award Submissions.

January 15, 2010 - Deadline for the Robert V. Bishop Award.
March 1, 2010 - Deadline for All Other Region Award submittals.

Lastly DO NOT forget your own Chapter Awards Program. Start planning NOW for chapter awards program and get the word out so your Chapter Membership can begin thinking about nominations. Everyone likes to be recognized for their hard work so be sure that they are!

Note:
All the information needed is on the CSI web site for Institute Awards. If you have trouble own loading information or finding the information Please contact myself or Billy Mathis.

AWARDS NOTICE

Awards recognize the efforts of the lifeblood of this or any volunteer organization; it’s people. Recognition is the only form of payment we, as a Chapter, Region, or Institute can truly afford. When thinking of Awards, it is never too early to begin thinking about awards on all levels – Institute, Region and Chapter. As an Awards Committee chairman, our passion should be to garner as many Awards for your Chapter and Chapter People as possible. One of the easiest Awards to win, but yet most complex of the Institute Awards to submit is the OUTSTANDING CHAPTER AWARD. Every chapter in Gulf States Region routinely does more than enough to receive this award. All you need is documentation. Remember that the submittal form has been updated from previous years, so please go the Institute Web Site and download the most current submission form, because use of the old form will constitute immediate disqualification at the Institute level!!! If you have any problems with the download contact one of us and we will gladly send it to you. This does not mean contact us the day before the due date, we are GOOD; BUT NOT THAT GOOD!!! Special Note: This form can is also used, in an updated format without all the attachments, as the Chapter President’s Region Report. Helping keep this form updated will make a great advocate for your cause out of your Chapter President.

When it comes to Awards there are three basic categories to be concerned with:

Institute Awards:
No doubt each chapter has some one or firm that deserves an Award. Carefully read the requirements for each award and you will begin to see the faces of those within the Chapter who put forth the extra effort and are deserving of that particular award. Also if you have a publication that is “above and beyond” the norm or which is unique to your Chapter, classify it and submit a nomination package. The worst that can happen with any of these is someone or something more deserving will beat you out. You will never know this, however, if you don’t submit. So pick out that set of documents, event, or person and submit it!!

Region Awards:
Again we all have people or sets of documents, publications, or special events that are worthy of recognition. As with the Institute Awards Program, read the requirements and send in a nomination package!!!! We, at the region level, are proud to announce our Regions newest Award – the Eugene Wetzel Award or “The Great Communicator Award”. We all have that special someone in our chapter that writes letters, articles, stands up at every chapter function and has something to say GOOD or BAD about what is going on with in the Chapter, Region or Institute. Here is another way to get that person recognized at the Region Level.

Chapter Awards:
Here is where the Chapter has the opportunity to show its appreciation for the hard work and efforts of its members. There is no limit to the types of Awards to be given. Most Chapters had annual awards that are given such as Member of the Year, Appreciation Awards, and Service Awards. Some Chapters also have unique awards such as Rookie of the Year or an award named after one of the Chapter Icon Members. You can also be very inventive and present other unique awards for special actions or missteps taken. After the Awards are identified, then an appropriate ceremony should be undertaken. The ceremony should be solemn and serious enough to provide the award recipients with the knowledge that their Chapter appreciates their errors. However, don’t make it a totally dull and boring affair that no one except the award recipients want to attend. Keep it upbeat, make it enjoyable.

Well we have dwelled on Awards quite long enough. We are here to help. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask us. Our e-mail addresses will be given below so we can be contacted. While we are here to help and advise, we are not here to do your work for you. If any Chapter needs advice or assistance with deciding to make an award submittal, please don’t hesitate to ask. We do ask, however, that if you want to submit for one of the Specification Competition Awards, please contact Dudley directly for the requirements and guidelines. Let’s get out there and make the Gulf States Region the most recognized Region in the Institute.
